Kohelet 4:1 ושׁבתי אני ואראה את־כל־העשׁקים אשׁר נעשׂים תחת
השׁמשׁ והנה דמעת העשׁקים ואין להם מנחם ומיד עשׁקיהם כח ואין להם מנחם׃
Veshavti ani vaereh et-kol-haashukim asher naasim takhat hashamesh vehineh dimat haashukim veein lahem menakhem umiyad oshkeihem koakh veein lahem menakhem:
Then I returned and
considered all the oppression that is done under
the sun: And look! The tears of the oppressed, But they have no comforter—
On the side of their oppressors there is
power, But they have no comforter.
Kohelet 4:2 ושׁבח
אני את־המתים שׁכבר מתו מן־החיים אשׁר המה חיים עדנה׃
veshabeakh ani et-hametim shekvar metu min-hakhayim asher hemah khayim adenah:
Therefore I praised the
dead who were already dead, More than the living who are still alive.
Kohelet 4:3 וטוב
משׁניהם את אשׁר־עדן לא היה אשׁר לא־ראה את־המעשׂה הרע אשׁר נעשׂה תחת השׁמשׁ׃
ve tov mish
nei hem et a sher-a den lo ha ya a sher lo-ra a et-ha ma a se ha ra a sher na a sa ta khat ha sha mesh:
Kohelet 4:4 וראיתי
אני את־כל־עמל ואת כל־כשׁרון המעשׂה כי היא קנאת־אישׁ מרעהו גם־זה הבל ורעות רוח׃
Veraiti ani et-kol-amal veet kol-kishron hamaaseh kihi kinat-ish mereehu gam-zeh hevelu reut ruakh:
Yet, better than both is he who has never existed, Who has not seen the
evil work that is done under the sun.
Kohelet 4:5 הכסיל
חבק את־ידיו ואכל את־בשׂרו׃
Hakesil khovek et-yadav veokhel et-besaro:
The
fool folds his hands And consumes his own flesh.
Kohelet 4:6 טוב
מלא כף נחת ממלא חפנים עמל ורעות רוח׃
Tov melo khaf
nakhat mimlo khaf nayim amalu reut ruakh:
Better
a handful with quietness Than both hands
full, together with toil and grasping
for the wind.
Kohelet 4:7 ושׁבתי
אני ואראה הבל תחת השׁמשׁ׃
Veshavti ani vaere hevel takhat hashamesh:
Then I returned, and I
saw hevel (vanity) under the sun:
Kohelet 4:8 ישׁ
אחד ואין שׁני גם בן ואח אין־לו ואין קץ לכל־עמלו גם־עיניו לא־תשׂבע עשׁר ולמי אני
עמל ומחסר את־נפשׁי מטובה גם־זה הבל וענין רע הוא׃

sheni gam ben vaakh ein-lo veein ketzlekhol-amalo gam-einovei lo-tisba osher ulemi ani amel umekhaser et-nafshi mitovah gam-zeh hevel vein yanra hu:
Then I returned and considered all the oppression
that is done under the sun: And look! The tears of the oppressed, But they have
no comforter— On the side of their
oppressors there is power, But they have
no comforter.
Kohelet 4:9 טובים
השׁנים מן־האחד אשׁר ישׁ־להם שׂכר טוב בעמלם׃
Tovim hashenayim min-ha ekhad asher yesh-lahem sakhar tov baamalam:
Two are better than one, Because they have a good
reward for their labor.
Kohelet 4:10 כי
אם־יפלו האחד יקים את־חברו ואילו האחד שׁיפול ואין שׁני להקימו׃
ki im-yipolu
haekhad yakim et-khavero veilo haekhad sheyipol veein sheni lahakimo:
For if they fall, one
will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.
Kohelet 4:11 גם
אם־ישׁכבו שׁנים וחם להם ולאחד איך יחם׃
Gam im-yishkevu
shenayim vekham
lahem uleekhad ekh yekham:
Again, if two lie down
together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone?
Kohelet 4:12 ואם־יתקפו
האחד השׁנים יעמדו נגדו והחוט המשׁלשׁ לא במהרה ינתק׃
Veim-yitkefo haekhad
hashenayim yaamdu
negdo vehakhut hameshulash lo vimhera yinatek:
Though
one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord
is not quickly broken.
Kohelet 4:13 טוב
ילד מסכן וחכם ממלך זקן וכסיל אשׁר לא־ידע להזהר עוד׃
Tov yeled misken
vekhakham mimelekh
zaken ukhesil asher lo-yada lehizaher od:
Better a poor and wise youth Than an old and
foolish king who will be admonished no more.
Kohelet 4:14 כי־מבית
הסורים יצא למלך כי גם במלכותו נולד רשׁ׃
Ki-miHouse of hasurim
yatza limlokh ki gam bemalkhuto nolad rash:
For he comes out of
prison to be king, Although he was born poor in his kingdom.
Kohelet 4:15 ראיתי
את־כל־החיים המהלכים תחת השׁמשׁ עם הילד השׁני אשׁר יעמד תחתיו׃
Raiti et-kol-hakhayim hamehalkhim takhat hashamesh im hayeled hasheni asher yaamod takhtav:
I saw
all the living who walk under the sun; They were with the second youth who
stands in his place.
Kohelet 4:16 אין־קץ
לכל־העם לכל אשׁר־היה לפניהם גם האחרונים לא ישׂמחו־בו כי־גם־זה הבל ורעיון רוח׃
Ein-ketz lekhol-haam lekhol asher-hayah lifneihem gam haakharonim lo yismekhu-vo ki-gam-zeh hevel verayon ruakh: שׁמר רגליך כאשׁר תלך
אל־בית האלהים וקרוב לשׁמע מתת Kohelet 4:17 הכסילים זבח כי־אינם יודעים לעשׂות רע׃
Shemor ragleikha kaasher telekh el-House of haElohim
vekarov lishmo amitet hakesilim zavakh ki-einam yodim laashoot ra:
Walk prudently when you go to the House
of Elohim;
and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do
not know that they do evil.
