5:1 Shema you this word which I take up against you, [even] a lamentation, O house of Yisrael.
The virgin of Yisrael is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; [there is] none to raise her up.
5:3 For thus said Adonai HaShem
The city that went out [by] a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth [by] an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Yisrael.
5:4 For thus said Adonai to the house of Yisrael:
Seek Me, and you shall live:
5:5 But seek not Beit El, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to BeerSheva (בּאר שׁבע): for Gilgal shall surely go into golus, and Beit El shall come to nothing.
5:6
Seek Adonai, and you shall live; lest he break out like
fire in the house of
Yosef, and devour [it], and [there be]
none to quench [it] in Beit El.
5:7 You who turn mishpat to laanah (לענה bitterness, wormwood), and leave off tzedakah in the earth,
5:8
[
Seek Him] that makes the Pleiades and Orion, and
turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the
day dark with night: that calls for the waters of the sea,
and pours them out upon the face of the earth:
Adonai [is] His Name:
5:9 That strengthens the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.
5:10 They hate him that rebukes in the gate, and they abhor him that speaks uprightly.
5:11 Forasmuch therefore as your treading [is] upon the poor, and you take from him burdens of wheat: you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine of them.
5:12 For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate [from their right].
5:13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it [is] an evil time.
5:14
Seek good, and not evil, that you may live: and so Adonai,
the Elohim (אלהים) Tzva'ot, shall be with you, as you have spoken.
5:15
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish mishpat in
the gate: it may be that Adonai Elohim (אלהים) Tzva'ot will be gracious
to the remnant of Yosef.
5:16 Therefore thus says Adonai Elohei-Tzva'ot, Adonai: In all the streets shall be lamentations, and in all the ways shall it be said, Alas, Alas! The farmer shall be called to mourning and lamentation, and to them that are skilled in complaining.
5:17 And in all vineyards [shall be] wailing: for I will pass through you, said Adonai.
Hoi hamitavim et-yom Adonai lamah-zeh lakhem yom Adonai hu-choshekh ve lo-or:
Woe to you that desire the Day of Adonai!
To what end [is] it for you?
The Day of Adonai [is] darkness, and not light.
5:19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
5:20 [Shall] not the day of Adonai [be] darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.
5:22 Though you offer Me Olot and your Minchot, I will not accept [them]: neither will I regard the shelamim of your fat beasts.
5:23 Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your nevalim (22 string harps).
5:24 But let mishpat run down as waters, and tzedakah as a mighty stream.
5:25 Did you offer Me sacrifices and offerings. In the wilderness forty years, O house of Yisrael?
5:26 But you have borne the shrine of your molek and kiyun (Pedestal) your images, the star of your god, which you made to yourselves.
5:27 Therefore will I cause you to go into golus beyond Demeshek (דּמשׁק), said Adonai, whose Name [is] The Elohim (אלהים) Tzva'ot.
shrine of your molek :- It most probably means "shrine," a portable shrine, like those spoken of in Acts 19:24 in connection with the worship of Diana.
