A. The judgments of HaShem (3:1-18)
3:1
Ani ha
gever
(strong man) [that] has seen oni (affliction) by the shevet (rod) of HIS
wrath.
3:2
He has led me, and brought [me into] darkness, but not
[into] light.
3:3
Surely against me is He turned; he turns HIS yad (hand) [against
me] all the day.
Bi la ve sa ri ve o ri shi bar ats mo tai:
Ba na a lai va ya kaf rosh u te la a:
Be ma kha sha kim ho shi va ni ke me tei o lam:
3:4
My basar
(flesh) and my skin has He made balah
(old); He has broken my
etsem (bones).
3:5
He has builded against me, and compassed [me] with gall and
travail.
3:6
He has set me in dark places, as [they that be] dead of
old.
Ga dar ba a di ve lo e tse hikh bid ne khash ti:
Gam kie zakva a shave a satam tefila ti:
Gadar derakh ai be gazit ne ti vo tai i va:
3:7
He has gadar
(hedged) me about, that I cannot get out: he has made
my chain heavy.
3:8
Also when I cry and shout, he shuts out my tefillah.
3:9
He has inclosed my ways with gaziyth (hewn stone), he has made my
paths crooked.
Dov o rev hu li a ri a ri be mis ta rim:
De ra khai so rer va ye fash khe ni sa ma ni sho mem:
Da rakh kash to va ya tsi ve ni ka ma ta ra la khets:
3:10
He [was] to me [as] a dob
(bear) lying in wait, [and as] a lion
in secret places.
3:11
He has turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he
has made me shamem (desolate).
3:12
He has bent HIS bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
He vi be khil yo tai benei ash pa to:
Ha yi ti sekhok le khol-ami negina tam kol-ha yom:
His bi a ni vam ro rim hir va ni laana:
3:13
He has caused the arrows of HIS quiver to enter into my
reins.
3:14
I was a derision to all my people; [and] their song all the
day.
3:15
He has filled me with marar (bitterness), he has made me drunken
with laanah (wormwood).
Va yag res be kha tsats shi nai hikh pi sha ni ba e fer:
Va tiz nakh mi sha lom naf shi na shi ti to va:
Va o mar a vad nits khi ve to khal ti mei ho va:
3:16
He has also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he has
covered me with ashes.
3:17
And you have zanach (rejected) my nefesh far off from shalom: I forgat
prosperity.
3:18
And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from ADONAI (יהוה):
Ze khar-an yi u me ru di laana va rosh:
Zakhor tiz kor ve ta shoi akh ve ta sho akh a lai naf shi:
Zot a shiv el-li bi al-ken o khil:
B. The mercies of Hashem (3:19-39)
3:19
Zakar mine oni and my wandering, the laanah
(wormwood) and
the bitterness.
3:20
My nefesh has [them] still in remembrance, and is humbled in
me.
3:21
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I yachal (waited).
Khas dei ADONAI ki lo-tam nu ki lo-kha lu ra kha mav:
Kha da shim lab ka rim ra baH emunatekha:
Khel ki yehova am ra naf shi al-ken o khil lo:
3:22
Through ADONAI's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.
3:23
They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
3:24
"ADONAI is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I hope in Him!"
Tov yehova le ko av le nefesh tid re she nu:

3:25
ADONAI (יהוה) [is] Tov

[that] seeketh him.
3:26
[It is] good that [a man] should both tikvah and quietly wait
for the teshuah (deliverance,
salvation) of ADONAI (יהוה).
3:27
[It is] good for a man that he bear the yoke (עול) in his youth.
Ye shev ba dad ve yi dom ki na tal a lav:
Yi ten be a far pi hu u lai yesh tik va:
Yi ten le ma ke hu le khi yis ba be kher pa:
3:28
He yashav
(sits) alone and keeps silence, because he has borne
[it] upon him.
3:29
He putteth HIS mouth in the dust; if so be there may be
tikvah (hope).
3:30
He gives [his] cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled
full with reproach.
Ki lo yiz nakh le o lam a do nai:
Ki im-ho ga ve ri kham ke rov kha sa dav kha sa dav:
Ki lo i na mi li bo va ya ge be nei-ish:
3:31
Ki

3:32
But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion
according to the multitude of HIS chesed (lovingkindness).
3:33
For he does not afflict willingly nor grieve the children
of men.

3:35
To turn aside the right of a man before ha panim Elyon,
3:36
To subvert a man in HIS cause, *ADONAI (יהוה) approveth not.
Mi ze a mar va te hi a do nai lo tsi va:

3:37
Who

3:38
Out of the mouth of the Elyon proceeds not ra (evil) and
tov (good)?
3:39
Wherefore does a living man complain, a man for the
punishment of HIS sins?

C. The call for Spiritual Renewal (3:40-42)
3:40
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to ADONAI (יהוה).
3:41
Let us lift up our heart with [our] hands to EL in the
shamayim.
3:42
We have transgressed and have rebelled: you have not
pardoned.
Sa ko ta va af va tir de fe nu ha rag ta lo kha mal ta:

D. The Sorrow of Yermeyahu over Yerushalayim (3:43-51)
3:43
Thou have covered with anger, and persecuted us: you have
slain, you have not pitied.
3:44
Thou have covered yourself with a cloud, that [our] tefillah
should not pass through.
3:45
Thou have made us [as] the offscouring and refuse in the
midst of the people.
Pa tsu a lei nu pi hem kol-oi vei nu:
Pa khad va fa khasa ya la nu ha shet ve ha sha ver:

3:46
All our enemies have patzah

3:47
Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and
destruction.
3:48
Mine eye runs down with rivers of water for the
destruction of the bat my people.

3:49
Mine ayin

intermission,
3:50
Till ADONAI (יהוה) look down, and behold from shamayim.
3:51
Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters
of my city.
Tzod tsa du ni ka tsi por oi vai khi nam:

Tza fu-ma yim al-ro shi a mar ti nig zar ti:
3:52
Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.
3:53
They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone
upon me.
3:54
Waters flowed over mine head; [then] I said, I am cut off.
Kara ti shim kha yehova mi bor takh ti yot:
Ko li shama ta al-ta lem az ne kha le rav kha ti le shav a ti:
Karav ta be yom ek ra e ka amar ta altira:
3:55
I called upon Your Name, O ADONAI (יהוה), out of the low dungeon.
3:56
You have heard my voice: hide not your ear at my
breathing, at my cry.
3:57
You drew near in the day [that] I called upon you:
you said, Fear not.
Rav ta a do nai ri vei naf shi ga al ta kha yai:
Ra i ta ye ho va a va ta ti shaf ta mish pa ti:

3:58
O *ADONAI (יהוה), you have pleaded the causes of my nefesh; you have
redeemed my life.
3:59
O ADONAI (יהוה), you have seen my wrong: judge you my cause.
3:60
You have seen all their vengeance [and] all their
imagination against me.
Sha ma ta kher pa tam ye ho va kol-makh she vo tam a lai:
Sif tei ka mai ve heg yo nam a lai kol-ha yom:

3:61
You have heard their reproach, O ADONAI (יהוה), [and] all their imaginations against me;
3:62
The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device
against me all the day.
3:63
Nabat (look) their sitting down, and their rising up; I [am]
their manginah (song).
Ta shiv la hem ge mul ye ho va ke ma a se ye dei hem:
Ti ten la hem me gi nat-lev ta a lat kha la hem:
Tir dof be af ve tash mi dem mi ta khat she mei ye ho va:
3:64
Render to them a recompence, O ADONAI (יהוה), according to the
work of their hands.
3:65
Give them sorrow of heart, your curse to them.
3:66
Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the shamayim
of ADONAI (יהוה).
