Prophecy against Mo'av concerning Mo'av
48:1 Against Mo'av thus said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzva'ot, the Elohim (אלהים) of Yisra'el; Woe to Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriath-Aim is confounded [and] taken: Misgav is confounded and dismayed.
48:2 [There shall be] no more praise of Mo'av: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from [being] a nation. Also you shall be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue you.
48:3 A voice of crying [shall be] from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction.
48:4 Mo'av is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
48:5 For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.
48:6 Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.
48:7 For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you shall also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity [with] his priests and his sarim together.
48:8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as ADONAI (יהוה) has spoken.
48:9 Give wings to Mo'av, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein.
48:10 Cursed [be] he that does the work of ADONAI (יהוה) deceitfully, and cursed [be] he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
48:11 Mo'av has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.
48:12 Therefore, Hinei, the days come, said ADONAI (יהוה), that I will send to him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
48:13 And Mo'av shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Yisra'el was ashamed of Beit-el their confidence.
48:14 How say you, We [are] mighty and strong men for the war?
48:15 Mo'av is spoiled, and gone up [out of] her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, said the King, whose name [is] ADONAI (יהוה) Tzva'ot.
48:16 The calamity of Mo'av [is] near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.
48:17 All you that are about him, bemoan him; and all you that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, [and] the beautiful rod!
48:18 You daughter that dost inhabit Divon, come down from [thy] glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Mo'av shall come upon you, [and] he shall destroy your strong holds.
48:19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that flees, and her that escapeth, [and] say, What is done?
48:20 Mo'av is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell you it in Arnon, that Mo'av is spoiled,
48:21 And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Yahazah, and upon Mephaat, D
48:22 And upon Divon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beit-Divlatayim,
48:23 And upon Kiriat-Aim, and upon Beit-Gamul, and upon Beit-Meon,
48:24 And upon Keriot, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of ha Eretz Mo'av, far or near.
48:25 The horn of Mo'av is cut off, and his arm is broken, said ADONAI (יהוה).
48:26 Make you him drunken: for he magnified [himself] against ADONAI (יהוה): Mo'av also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
48:27 For was not Yisra'el a derision to you? was he found among thieves? for since you spokest of him, you skippedst for joy.
48:28 O you that dwell in Mo'av, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove [that] makes her nest in the sides of the hole's mouth.
48:29 We have heard the pride of Mo'av, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.
48:30 I know His wrath, said ADONAI (יהוה); but [it shall] not [be] so; his lies shall not so effect [it].
48:31 Therefore will I howl for Mo'av, and I will cry out for all Mo'av; [mine heart] shall mourn for the men of Kirheres.
48:32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for you with the weeping of Yatzer: your plants are gone over the sea, they reach [even] to the sea of Yatzer: the spoiler is fallen upon your summer fruits and upon your vintage.
48:33 And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from ha Eretz Mo'av; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; [their] shouting [shall be] no shouting.
48:34 From the cry of Heshbon [even] to Elealeh, [and even] to Yahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar [even] to Horonaim, [as] an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.
48:35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Mo'av, said ADONAI (יהוה), him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
48:36 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Mo'av like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches [that] he has gotten are perished.
48:37 For every head [shall be] bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands [shall be] cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
48:38 [There shall be] lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Mo'av, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Mo'av like a vessel wherein [is] no pleasure, said ADONAI (יהוה).
48:39 They shall howl, [saying], How is it broken down! how has Mo'av turned the back with shame! so shall Mo'av be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.
48:40 For thus said ADONAI (יהוה); Hinei, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Mo'av.
48:41 Keriot is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Mo'av at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
48:42 And Mo'av shall be destroyed from [being] a people, because he has magnified [himself] against ADONAI (יהוה).
48:43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, [shall be] upon you, O inhabitant of Mo'av, said ADONAI (יהוה).
48:44 He that flees from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, [even] upon Mo'av, the year of their visitation, said ADONAI (יהוה).
48:45 They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Mo'av, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
48:46 Woe be to you, O Mo'av! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for your sons are taken captives, and your daughters captives.
48:47 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Mo'av in the latter days, said ADONAI (יהוה). Thus far [is] the judgment of Mo'av.
