3:1 And the child Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) ministered to YEHOVAH (יהוה) before Eli. And Dvar YEHOVAH (יהוה) was precious in those days; [there was] no open vision.
3:2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli [was] laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, [that] he could not see;
3:3 And the lamp of Elohim (אלהים) had not yet gone out in the temple of YEHOVAH (יהוה), where the Ark of Elohim (אלהים) [was], and Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) was laid down [to sleep];
3:4 That YEHOVAH (יהוה) called Shemuel (שׁמוּאל): and he answered, Here [am] I.
3:5 And he ran to Eli, and said, Here I am; for you called me. And he said, "I did not call; lie down again." And he went and lay down.
3:6 Then YEHOVAH (יהוה) called yet again,
"Shemuel! (שׁמוּאל). So Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) arose and went to Eli, and said, Here I am; for you call me." He answered, "I did not call, my son; lie down again."
3:7 Now Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) did not yet know YEHOVAH (יהוה), neither was Dvar YEHOVAH (יהוה) yet revealed to him.
3:8 And YEHOVAH (יהוה) called Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said: "Here I am; for you call me. And Eli perceived that YEHOVAH (יהוה) had called the child.
3:9 Therefore Eli said to Shemuel (שׁמוּאל), Go, lie down: and it shall be, if HE call your, that you shall say:
"Dvar, YEHOVAH (יהוה); ki shema ebed'kh halak".
So Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) went and lay down in His place.
3:10 Ve yomei Bo (come) YEHOVAH (יהוה) ve yit yatzav (stand), ve yik Kara (called) as at other times:
"Shemuel! (שׁמוּאל), Shemuel! (שׁמוּאל)."
Then Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) answered:
"Dvar ki shema ebed'kh."
3:11 And YEHOVAH (יהוה) said to Shemuel (שׁמוּאל):
"Behold, I will do a thing in Yisrael, at which both the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle.
3:12 In that day I will perform against Eli all [things] which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
3:13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knows; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
3:14 And therefore I have sworn to the beit Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering forever."
3:15 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the beit YEHOVAH (יהוה). And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) feared to tell Eli the vision.
3:16 Then Eli called Shemuel (שׁמוּאל), and said, Shemuel (שׁמוּאל), my son. And he answered, Here I am.
3:17 And he said, What [is] the thing that [YEHOVAH (יהוה)] has said to you? I pray you hide [it] not from me: Elohim (אלהים) do so to you, and more also, if you hide [any] thing from me of all the things that he said to you.
3:18 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It [is] YEHOVAH (יהוה): let him do what seems him good.
3:19 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) grew, and YEHOVAH (יהוה) was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
3:20 And all Yisrael from Dan even to Beer Sheva knew that Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) [was] established [to be] a Navi of YEHOVAH (יהוה).
3:21 And YEHOVAH (יהוה) appeared again in Shiloh: for YEHOVAH (יהוה) revealed himself to Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) in Shiloh by Dvar YEHOVAH (יהוה).
