7:1 And the men of Kiryat Ye'arim came, and fetched up the Aron YEHOVAH (יהוה), and brought it into the house of Avinadav in the hill, and sanctified El'azar his son to keep the Aron YEHOVAH (יהוה).
7:2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kiryat Ye'arim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the Beit Yisra'el lamented after YEHOVAH (יהוה).
7:3 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) spoke to all the Beit Yisra'el: saying, If ye do return to YEHOVAH (יהוה) with all your hearts, [then] put away the strange gods and Ashtarot from among you, and prepare your hearts to YEHOVAH (יהוה), and serve Him only: and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Pelishtim .
7:4 Then the Benai Yisra'el did put away Baalim and Ashtarot, and served YEHOVAH (יהוה) only.
7:5 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) said:
Gather all Yisra'el to Mitzpah (מצפּה), and I will pray for you to YEHOVAH (יהוה).
7:6 And they gathered together to Mitzpah (מצפּה), and drew water, and poured [it] out before YEHOVAH (יהוה), and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against YEHOVAH (יהוה). And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) judged the Benai Yisra'el in Mitzpah (מצפּה).
7:7 And when the Pelishtim heard that the Benai Yisra'el were gathered together to Mitzpah (מצפּה), the lords of the Pelishtim went up against Yisra'el. And when the Benai Yisra'el heard [it], they were afraid of the Pelishtim .
7:8 And the Benai Yisra'el said to Shemuel (שׁמוּאל):
Cease not to cry to YEHOVAH (יהוה) Eloheinu for us, that He will save us out of the hand of the Pelishtim .
7:9 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) took a sucking lamb, and offered [it for] a Olah wholly to YEHOVAH (יהוה): and Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) cried to YEHOVAH (יהוה) for Yisra'el; and YEHOVAH (יהוה) heard him.
7:10 And as Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) was offering up the Olah, the Pelishtim drew near to battle against Yisra'el: but YEHOVAH (יהוה) thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Pelishtim , and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Yisra'el.
7:11 And the men of Yisra'el went out of Mitzpah (מצפּה), and pursued the Pelishtim , and smote them, until [they came] under Beit-Kar.
7:12 Then Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) took a stone, and set [it] between Mitzpah (מצפּה) and Shen (שׁן), and called the name of it Eben Haezer, saying, Hitherto has YEHOVAH (יהוה) helped us.
7:13 So the Pelishtim were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Yisra'el: and the hand of YEHOVAH (יהוה) was against the Pelishtim all the days of Shemuel (שׁמוּאל).
7:14 And the cities which the Pelishtim had taken from Yisra'el were restored to Yisra'el, from Ekron even to Gat; and the coasts thereof did Yisra'el deliver out of the hands of the Pelishtim . And there was peace between Yisra'el and the Emorites.
7:15 And Shemuel (שׁמוּאל) judged Yisra'el all the days of his life.
7:16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Beit-el, and Gilgal, and Mitzpah (מצפּה), and judged Yisra'el in all those places.
7:17 And his return [was] to Ramah; for there [was] his house; and there he judged Yisra'el; and there he built an altar to YEHOVAH (יהוה).
