The Silence in Heaven and the Seven Shofarot
8:1 And when he had opened the seventh Chotam (seal), there was silence in shamayim about the space of half an hour.
8:2 And I saw the seven messengers which stood before Elohim (אלהים); and to them were given seven Shofarot.
8:3 And another messenger came and stood at the mitzbe'ach, having a golden makhtah; and there was given to him much ketoreth, that he should offer [it] with the tefillot of all Kedoshim upon the golden mitzbe'ach which was before the kes (throne).
8:4 And the smoke of the ketoreth, [which came] with the tefillot of the Kedoshim, ascended up before Elohim (אלהים) out of the messenger's hand.
8:5 And the messenger took the makhtah, and filled it with fire of the mitzbe'ach, and cast [it] into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
8:6 And the seven malakim (messengers) which had the seven Shofarot prepared themselves to sound.
8:7
The first messenger sounded
the
shofar, and there followed hail and fire
mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the
third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt
up.
8:8
And the second messenger sounded
the
shofar, and as it were a great
mountain burning with fire was cast into the yam (sea): and the third
part of the yam (sea) became blood;
8:9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the yam (sea), and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
8:10
And the third messenger sounded
the
shofar, and there fell a great star
from shamayim, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the
third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
8:11 And the name of the star is called לענה La`anah: and the third part of the waters became לענה La`anah; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
8:12
And the fourth messenger sounded
the
shofar, and the third part of the sun
was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part
of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and
the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night
likewise.
8:13
And I beheld, and heard an messenger flying through the midst
of shamayim, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the
inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the
shofar of the three malakim (messengers), which are yet to sound!
