This Psalms recounts the miracles of the Exodus and Yisrael's trek through the wilderness of  Eretz Yisrael, which testify that HaShem not only created the Universe but also continues to supervise and guide history. It ends with the conclusion that it is worthless to worship anything except HaShem

135:1 A call to praise HaShem

הַ֥לְלוּיָ֨הּ | הַֽ֖לְלוּ אֶת־שֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָ֑ה הַֽ֜לְל֗וּ עַבְדֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה:

HalluYah | hallu et-shem Adonai hallu avdei Adonai:

Praise YHWH (יהוה).

Praise the Name of YHWH (יהוה);

Praise him, O you servants of YHWH (יהוה).

135:2 שֶׁעֹ֣מְדִים בְּבֵ֣ית יְהֹוָ֑ה בְּ֜חַצְר֗וֹת בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ:

She'omedim beveit Adonai bechatzrot beit Eloheinu:

You who stand in the house of YHWH (יהוה). In the courts of the Beit Eloheinu,

135:3 הַֽלְלוּיָהּ כִּי־ט֣וֹב יְהֹוָ֑ה זַמְּר֥וּ לִ֜שְׁמ֗וֹ כִּ֣י נָעִֽים:

HalluYah ki-tov Adonai zameru lishmo ki na'im:

Praise YHWH (יהוה); for YHWH (יהוה) is good:

Sing praises unto His Name; for it is pleasant.

135:4 כִּֽי־יַֽעֲקֹ֗ב בָּחַ֣ר ל֣וֹ יָ֑הּ יִ֜שְׂרָאֵ֗ל לִסְגֻלָּתֽוֹ:

Ki-Ya'akov bachar lo Yah Yisra'el lisgulato:

For YHWH (יהוה) has chosen Yaakov unto Himself, and  Yisrael for His special treasure (segula סְגֻלָּה).

135:5  כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י יָדַעְתִּי כִּֽי־גָד֣וֹל יְהֹוָ֑ה וַֽ֜אֲדֹנֵ֗ינוּ מִכָּל־אֱלֹהִֽים:

Ki ani yada'ti ki-gadol Adonai va'Adoneinu mikol-elohim:

For I know that YHWH (יהוה) is great, And  Adoneinu is above all gods.

135:6  כֹּ֚ל אֲשֶׁר־חָפֵ֥ץ יְהֹוָ֗ה עָ֫שָׂ֥ה בַּשָּׁמַ֥יִם וּבָאָ֑רֶץ בַּ֜יַּמִּ֗ים וְכָל־תְּהֹמֽוֹת:

Kol asher-chafetz Adonai asah bashamayim uva'aretz bayamim vechol-tehomot:

Whatsoever YHWH (יהוה) pleases, He does, In heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

135:7 מַֽעֲלֶ֣ה נְשִׂאִים֘ מִקְצֵ֪ה הָ֫אָ֥רֶץ בְּרָקִ֣ים לַמָּטָ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה מ֥וֹצֵא ר֜֗וּחַ מֵאֽוֹצְרוֹתָֽיו:

Ma'aleh nesi'im miktzeh ha'aretz berakim lamatar asah motze ruach me'otzerotav:

He causes the clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries.

HaShem's Mercy in the realm of History (8 -9)

135:8  שֶֽׁהִכָּה בְּכוֹרֵ֣י מִצְרָ֑יִם מֵֽ֜אָדָ֗ם עַד־בְּהֵמָֽה:

Shehikah bechorei Mitzrayim me'adam ad-behemah:

He struck down the firstborn of Mitzrayim, both of man and beast.

135:9  שָׁלַ֚ח | אוֹתֹ֣ת וּ֖מֹֽפְתִים בְּתוֹכֵ֣כִי מִצְרָ֑יִם בְּ֜פַרְעֹ֗ה וּבְכָל־עֲבָדָֽיו:

Shalach | otot umofetim betochechi Mitzrayim beFar'oh uvechol-avadav:

He sent signs and wonders into the midst of Mitzrayim, O Mitzrayim, upon Paroh, and upon all his servants. in the midst. Heb. בתוככי, like בתוך in the midst.

135:10  שֶֽׁהִכָּה גּוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֑ים וְ֜הָרַ֗ג מְלָכִ֥ים עֲצוּמִֽים:

Shehikah goyim rabim veharag melachim atzumim:

He struck down great nations, and slew mighty kings;

135:11  לְסִיח֚וֹן | מֶ֚לֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֗י וּ֖לְעוֹג מֶ֣לֶךְ הַבָּשָׁ֑ן וּ֜לְכֹ֗ל מַמְלְכ֥וֹת כְּנָֽעַן:

LeSichon | melech ha'Emori ule'Og melech haBashan ulechol mamlechot Kena'an:

Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Kenaan:

135:12  וְנָתַ֣ן אַרְצָ֣ם נַֽחֲלָ֑ה נַֽ֜חֲלָ֗ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל עַמּֽוֹ:

Venatan artzam nachalah nachalah leYisra'el amo:

And gave their land as an heritage, an heritage to Yisrael His people.

HaShem's Majesty in the realm of pagan religion (13-18)

135:13 יְהֹוָה שִׁמְךָ֣ לְעוֹלָ֑ם יְ֜הֹוָ֗ה זִכְרְךָ֥ לְדֹֽר־וָדֹֽר:

Adonai shimcha le'olam Adonai zichrecha ledor-vador:

Your Name, O YHWH (יהוה), endures  forever, Your rememberance, O YHWH (יהוה), throughout all generations.

135:14 כִּֽי־יָדִ֣ין יְהֹוָ֣ה עַמּ֑וֹ וְעַל־עֲ֜בָדָ֗יו יִתְנֶחָֽם:

Ki-yadin Adonai amo ve'al-avadav yitnecham:

For YHWH (יהוה) will judge His people, and He will have compassion on His servants.

135:15  עֲצַבֵּ֣י הַ֖גּוֹיִם כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֑ב מַֽ֜עֲשֵׂ֗ה יְדֵ֣י אָדָֽם:

Atzabei hagoyim kesef vezahav ma'aseh yedei adam:

The idols of the nations are silver and gold. The work of men's hands. 

135:16  פֶּֽה־לָ֖הֶם וְלֹ֣א יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ עֵינַ֥יִם לָ֜הֶ֗ם וְלֹ֣א יִרְאֽוּ:

Peh-lahem velo yedaberu einayim lahem velo yir'u:

They have mouths, but they do not speak. They have eyes, but they do not see;

135:17  אָזְנַ֣יִם לָ֖הֶם וְלֹ֣א יַֽאֲזִ֑ינוּ אַ֜֗ף אֵ֖ין יֶשׁ־ר֣וּחַ בְּפִיהֶֽם:

Oznayim lahem velo ya'azinu af ein yesh-ruach befihem:

They have ears, but they do not hear; Neither is there any breath in their mouths.

neither is there any breath in their mouth. There is not even any breath in their mouth like an animal. Now, since they have no breath [in the mouth], he need not explain [that they do not have] the breath of the nose. This אף is vowelized with a “pattah,” whereas (115:6): “they have a nose (אף) but they do not smell,” is vowelized with a “kamatz.” (This is not found in all editions.)

135:18  כְּמוֹהֶם יִֽהְי֣וּ עֹֽשֵׂיהֶ֑ם כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁר־בֹּטֵ֣חַ בָּהֶֽם:

Kemohem yihyu oseihem kol asher-boteach bahem:

Those who make them are like them; So is every one who trusts them.

A call to Praise HaShem (19-21)

135:19  בֵּ֣ית יִ֖שְׂרָאֵל בָּֽרְכ֣וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֑ה בֵּ֥ית אַֽ֜הֲרֹ֗ן בָּֽרְכ֥וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָֽה:

Beit Yisra'el barechu et-Adonai Beit Aharon barechu et-Adonai:

Beit Yisrael: Bless YHWH (יהוה),

Beit Aharon: Bless YHWH (יהוה),

135:20  בֵּ֣ית הַ֖לֵּוִי בָּֽרְכ֣וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֑ה יִרְאֵ֥י יְ֜הֹוָ֗ה בָּֽרְכ֥וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָֽה:

Beit haLevi barechu et-Adonai yir'ei Adonai barechu et-Adonai:

Beit Levi: Bless YHWH (יהוה), who fear YHWH (יהוה),

Bless YHWH (יהוה).

135:21 בָּ֘ר֚וּךְ יְהֹוָ֨ה | מִצִּיּ֗וֹן שֹׁ֘כֵ֚ן יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֗ם הַֽלְלוּיָֽהּ:

Baruch Adonai | miTziyon shochen Yerushalayim

HaleluYah:

Blessed is YHWH (יהוה) out of Tzion, who dwells in Yerushalayim. Praise YHWH (יהוה).
