138:1 לְדָוִ֨ד ׀ אוֹדְךָ֥ בְכׇל-לִבִּ֑י נֶ֖גֶד אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲזַמְּרֶֽךָּ׃
LeDavid odcha vechol-libi neged elohim azamreka
I will praise Thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto Thee.
138:2 אֶשְתַּחֲוֶ֨ה אֶל-הֵיכַ֪ל קָדְשְךָ֡ וְאוֹ֘דֶ֤ה אֶת-שְמֶ֗ךָ עַל-חַסְדְּךָ֥ וְעַל-אֲמִתֶּ֑ךָ כִּי-הִגְדַּ֥לְתָּ עַל-כָּל-֜שִמְךָ֗ אִמְרָתֶֽךָ׃
eshtacha ve el-heichal kadshecha veode et-shemecha al-chasdecha veal-amitecha ki-higdalta al-kal-shimcha imratecha
I will shachah (bow down) toward Thy Set Apart Heichal, and praise Thy Name for Thy Chesed (lovingkindness) and for Thy Emet (truth): for Thou have magnified Thy Word above all Thy Name.
138:3 בְּיוֹ֣ם ֖קָרָאתִי וַתַּעֲנֵ֑נִי תַּרְהִבֵ֖נִי בְנַפְשִ֣י עֹֽז׃
beyom karati vataaneni tarhiveni venafshi oz
In the day when I cried out, Thou answered me, and strengthened me with strength in my nefesh.
Declaration of confidence for the future.
138:4 יוֹדוּ֣ךָ ֖יְהֹוָה כׇּל-מַלְכֵי-אָ֑רֶץ כִּ֥י ֜שָמְעוּ֗ אִמְרֵי-פִֽיךָ׃
Yoducha Yehova kol-malchei-aretz ki shamu imrei-ficha
All the kings of the earth shall praise Thee, O YHWH (יהוה), when they hear the Words of Thy mouth.
138:5 ֖וְיָשִירוּ בְּדַרְכֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֥י ֜גָדוֹ֗ל כְּבוֹ֣ד יְהֹוָֽה׃
Veyashiru bedarchei Adonai ki gadol kevod Adonai:
Yea, they shall sing in the ways of YHWH (יהוה): for great is the glory of YHWH (יהוה).
138:6 כִּי-רָ֣ם ֖יְהֹוָה וְשָפָ֣ל יִרְאֶ֑ה ֜וְגָבֹ֗הַּ מִמֶּרְחָ֥ק יְיֵדָֽע׃
Ki-ram Yehova veshafal yire vegavoha mimerchak yeyeda
Though YHWH (יהוה) be high, yet has He respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knows afar off.
David’s firm confidence for the future.
138:7 אִם-אֵלֵ֤ךְ ׀ בְּקֶ֥רֶב צָרָ֗ה תְּחַ֥יֵּ֥נִי עַ֤ל אַ֣ף ֖אֹיְבַי תִּשְלַ֣ח יָדֶ֑ךָ וְתוֹ֖שִיעֵ֣נִי יְמִינֶֽךָ׃
im-elech bekerev tzara techayeni al af oivai tishlach
yadecha vetoshieni yeminecha
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou will revive me: Thou shall stretch forth Thine Hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy Right Hand shall save me.
138:8 יְהֹוָה֘ יִגְמֹ֪ר בַּ֥עֲדִ֥י ֖יְהֹוָה חַסְדְּךָ֣ לְעוֹלָ֑ם מַעֲשֵׂ֖י יָדֶ֣יךָ אַל-תֶּֽרֶף׃
Yehova yigmor baadi Yehova chasdecha leolam maasei yadeicha al-teref
The YHWH (יהוה) will perfect that which concerns me: Thy Chesed, O YHWH (יהוה), endures forever: forsake not
the works of
Thine own hands.
