Those who Returned from Captivity (9:1-34)

9:1 So all Yisra'el were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they [were] written in the book of the melekhim Yisra'el and Yehudah, [who] were carried away to Bavel for their transgression.

9:2 Now the first inhabitants that [dwelt] in their possessions in their cities [were], the Yisra'elites, ha kohanim, Leviim, and the Nethinim.

9:3 And in Yerushalayim dwelt of benai Yehudah, and of benai Benyamin, and of benai Efrayim, and Menasheh;

9:4 Utai Ben Ammihud, Ben Omri, Ben Imri, Ben Bani, of benai Peretz Ben Yehudah.

9:5 And of the Shilonites; Asa'yah the bachor, and his banim.

9:6 And of Benai Zerach; Yeu'el, and their achim, six hundred and ninety.

9:7 And of Benai Benyamin; Sallu Ben Meshullam, Ben Hodav'yah, Ben Hasenuah,

9:8 And Yivne'yah Ben Yerocham, and Elah Ben Uzzi, Ben Michri, and Meshullam Ben Shefat'yah, Ben Reu'el, Ben Yivni'yah;

9:9 And their achim, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men [were] chief of the avot in the bayit of their avot.

9:10 And of the kohenim; Yeda'yah, and Yehoiariv, and Yachin,

9:11 And Azar'yah Ben Hilki'yah, Ben Meshullam, Ben Tzadok, Ben Merayot, Ben Achituv, the ruler of the Beit Elohim (אלהים);

9:12 And Ada'yah Ben Yeroham, Ben Pashur, Ben Malchi'yah, and Maasiai Ben Adi'el, Ben Yahtzerah, Ben Meshullam, Ben Meshillemit, Ben Immer;

9:13 And their achim, heads of the beit of their avot, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the avodah (service) of the Beit Elohim (אלהים).

9:14 And of the Leviim; Shema'yah Ben Hasshuv, Ben Azrikam, Ben Hashav'yah, of Benai Merari;

9:15 And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattan'yah Ben Mikha, Ben Zichri, Ben Asaf;

9:16 And Ovad'yah Ben Shema'yah, Ben Galal, Ben Yedutun, and Berek'yah Ben Asa, Ben Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netofatites.

9:17 And the sho'arim (gatekeepers) [were], Shallum, and Akuv, and Talmon, and Achiman, and their achim: Shallum [was] ha Rosh (chief);

9:18 Who hitherto [waited] in the melekh's gate eastward: they [were] sho'arim (gatekeepers) in the companies of benai Levi.

9:19 And Shallum Ben Kore, Ben Eviasaf, Ben Korah, and his achim, of the bayit of his avi, the Korahites, [were] over the work of the avodah (service), keepers of the sho'arim (gatekeepers) of the tabernacle: and their avot, [being] over thecamp of YHWH (יהוה), [were] keepers of the entry.

9:20 And Pinchas Ben Eli'ezer was the ruler over them in time past, [and] YHWH (יהוה) [was] with him.

9:21 [And] Zekar'yah Ben Mesh'elem'yah [was] porter of the door of the Ohel moed.

9:22 All these [which were] chosen to be sho'arim (gatekeepers) in the sho'arim (gatekeepers) [were] two hundred and tw'elve. These were reckoned by their yachas (genealogy)in their villages, whom Davyid and Shemu'el the seer did ordain in their set office.

9:23 So they and their children [had] the oversight of the sho'arim (gatekeepers) of the Beit YHWH (יהוה), [namely], the bayit of the ohel, by wards.

9:24 In four quarters were the sho'arim (gatekeepers), toward the east, west, north, and south.

9:25 And their achim, [which were] in their villages, [were] to come after seven days from time to time with them.

9:26 For these Leviim, the four chief sho'arim (gatekeepers), were in [their] set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the Beit Elohim (אלהים).

9:27 And they lodged round about the Beit Elohim (אלהים), because the charge [was] upon them, and the opening thereof every morning [pertained] to them.

9:28 And [certain] of them had the charge of the ministering kelim (vessels), that they should bring them in and out by tale.

9:29 [Some] of them also [were] appointed to oversee the kelim (vessels), and all the instruments of the mikdash, and the solet (flour), and the yayin (wine), and the shemen, and the lebonah (frankincense), and the besem (spices).

9:30 And [some] of Benai the kohanim made the ointment of the besem (spices).

9:31 And Mattith'yah, [one] of the Leviim, who [was] the bechorah Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.

9:32 And [other] of their achim, of Benai the Kohatites, [were] over the Lechem Ha Maarechet, to prepare [it] every shabbat.

9:33 And these [are] the singers, chief of the avot of the Leviim, [who remaining] in the chambers [were] free: for they were employed in [that] work day and night.

9:34 These chief avot of the Leviim [were] chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Yerushalayim.

9:35 And in Giveon dwelt the avi Giveon, Yehi'el, whose wife's name [was] Maachah:

9:36 And his bachor son Avdon, then Tzur, and Kish, and Ba'al, and Ner, and Nadav,

9:37 And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechar'yah, and Mikloth.

9:38 And Miklot begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their achim at Yerushalayim, over against their achim.

9:39 And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Shaul; and Shaul begat Yonatan, and Malkhi-shua, and Avi Nadav, and Eshba'al.

9:40 And Ben Yonatan [was] Meriv-Ba'al: and Meriv-Ba'al begat Mikah.

9:41 And Benai Mikhah [were], Piton, and Melekh, and Tahrea, [and Ahaz].

9:42 And Ahaz begat Yarah; and Yarah begat Alemet, and Azmavet, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Motza;

9:43 And Moza begat Binea; and Refa'yah beno, Eleasah beno, Az'el beno.
